Telephone and Hearing Loss

Telephone use can be challenging for people with hearing loss. There are several options to make conversations easier on the phone

  • Amplified telephones
    • An amplified phone will help bring up the loudness of the telephone conversations.
  • Caption phones
    • These phones have a screen attached to them and displays the conversations in text.
  • Video calls
    • You can use Apps like Face Time / Skype / WhatsApp on your phone or computer so that you can see the face of the person you are talking to. This makes it easier to understand conversations.

In addition to this your hearing aid can have specific telephone programs and Bluetooth streaming. Some services like Caption telephones can be available to you at no charge (with an Audiologist’s recommendation). These technologies can enhance your speech understanding and keep you connected.
