Virtual meetings, telehealth appointments and online conferences have become an integral part of our life since COVID-19.
Here are some tips to improve your online communication
Use video function
Make sure you use the video function of the online platform in addition to the audio. We use vision, hand gestures, lip reading and other visual cues to understand speech. Hence make sure you have the video on to help better communication.

Stream directly to your hearing aids
If you are a current hearing aid user, your hearing aid might already have the capacity to stream directly from a variety of tablets, phones and laptops. Make sure you use this functionality for a clearer auditory signal.

Use headphones
Using headphones can cut down on the background noise. This will provide better signal and therefore better communication online. Therefore, make sure you use them especially when there is background noise.
Use Closed Captioning
Use closed captioning capabilities on the online platform. This will help supplement the auditory signal. If possible (and with permission) use the recording feature on the platform that you are using to help listen to the meeting or conference. You can listen to the recordings later at your own pace.
